The Selassie Ites
Advocates for protecting the earth and standing up for peace, love, unity and equality, The Selassie Ites are known for their thought-provoking lyrics, rhythmic drums, thumping bass and rockin’ guitar leads.
Though currently based in the Seattle Washington, The Selassie Ites reggae band started in Hawaii.
The band began in Puna on The Big Island of Hawaii in 2013 founded by Abba T & Sista C who are also the writers, composers, lead vocalists and keyboard players for The Selassie Ites.
The Selassie Ites played in Hawaii at numerous events between 2013 and 2020 and have shared the stage with many great reggae artists including Clinton Fearon, Mike Love, Prezident Brown, Soulmedic and Arkaingelle.
After relocating to the Seattle area in 2022 (Sista C’s hometown) the couple re-established the band with some dedicated and very talented musicians from the area. Since then they have played at many festivals and events in Washington and Oregon including the NW Folklife Festival, the Oregon Aloha Festival, the Oregon Hemp Festival, the Bremerton Blackberry Festival, the Okanogan Barter Faire and many more.
Holding down The Selassie Ites’ groove on their drum and bass team is Jesse Burmeister on the bass and Tony Mitchell on the drums. On guitar and background vocals is John Hendow. Combined with Abba T and Sista C’s compelling lyrics The Selassie
Ites music has a powerful one of a kind sound that is delivered in a modern and progressive style.
The Selassie Ites recently released a single with a music video in May of 2025 called “Cries From The Battle Field.” A song about the current and past turmoil in the world and a prayer to overcome suffering and make a better way for humanity.
